Sept 27, 2008

The end of the end of summer and what the Thanksgiving is about to happen? Just spun through the Maritimes with Meg Hutchinson in tow. St. Andrews NB to Antigonish, NS and back here to Halifax.

I want to tell you why I love Halifax, NS. Tonight across the street from my house was a Hoser themed show at Gus’ Pub as a fundraiser for our local college radio station. “Hoser” is a very Canadian term used to describe those who wear wool caps and plaid at all times of the year, who tack on “eh” at the ends of phrases and who hang out in doughnut shops and talk hockey. This term was epitomized by two well known Canadian characters named Bob and Doug MacKenzie who were on SCTV many years ago.

Tonight the song choices were those of the 80′s and early 90′s and of Canadian Heritage like “the Log Driver’s Waltz” sung on that cartoon the Canadian Film Board did about log driving. I remember that song going through my head as Don Brownrigg and I drove through Salmon Arm BC in June. Anyway, you got a dollar off admission if you dressed like a hoser and there were homemade deep fried doughnuts and a maple syrup drinking contest. The finale was a heartful version of 1985′s “Tears are not Enough” and everyone sang along - something like this.

Across the street from Gus’ Pub is FRED ( Salon, Café & Gallery), my fave coffee and internet haunt. Tonight FRED transformed into a Disco party palace. Disco balls..disco beats and both women and men dressed in shimmer and glitter and high high heels. The scene when the smokers of the two distinct groups came out on the sidewalk to partake in their common clutch, was perfectly bizare and awesome. I adore this city for this and so many more reasons.

I think if I were a tree I’d be one that turned a shade of red when fall came around. I’d also be a red apple from the valley.

I’ll be travelin’ and workin’ hard throughout the fall going to places I haven’t been before like Saskatchewan & Manitoba. I’ll also be in Ontario for much of November and then scooting for a quick trip to the states before returning home for the winter to nestle in and create & record. Its been a truly wonderful couple of years touring If You Were For Me and I can’t thank you enough for coming to the shows, buying the record, then buying the record for a friend or a Christmas present or dragging your friends out to shows. My work continues because of you so thank you so very much.

With that I announce that I’m launching my 2nd official PRE-CAMPAIGN for my next project which will begin in early 2009. I’ll be recording such songs as Heart in the Game (Elvis), White Daisies, The Dancers, Send off and some others that are in the works! To those who generously pre-ordered my last cd, I THANK YOU for helping me bring that one to life. For those of you who are jumping on board this year, WELCOME TO THE TEAM and thank you in advance.
