ROSE COUSINS WINS CANADIAN REGIONAL FINAL for MOUNTAIN STAGE NEW SONG CONTEST!

I watched several pipe and drum marching bands parade down Spring Garden Road today in Halifax…the sign that I was home again. It’s been a busy and amazing few weeks on the road with Edie Carey in the states. I’ll give you a quick recap.

I headed to Minnesota on the 14th of June and we played at the Smooth Grind to a lovely Roseville crowd. The next night we were in Iowa City at the beautiful Englert Theatre sharing the stage with Ben Schmidt. On to Des Moines it was nice to play Ritual Café again then on to Oklahoma City to a neat outdoor backyard concert after a HUGE rainstorm. We landed in Omaha for a few days and started our stay with another outdoor concert and I saw lightning bugs for the first time. I know these are where I grew up but I have no memory of ever seeing one…a lil girl caught one for me in a jar.

After a few days rest in Omaha we headed south to Dallas, TX where we played Uncle Calvins Concert Series, Flipnotics in Austin and visited KPFT in Houston for a lil radio spot. We hoofed it back to Omaha and went to the Henry Doorly Zoo and played a final show together at Mick’s on June 28th.

I headed back to NS where I jumped in my car and spent the weekend at Stanfest where my good friends Jill Barber, Catherine MacLellan and John Gorka were playing and I was excited to see Nanci Griffith live for the first time. Was a great way to celebrate Canada, surrounded by music. I shimmied over to Sherbrooke Village to attempt instructor-hood at the first Sherbrooke Village Songwriting Camp. Another great week!

Lastnight I played a wonderful hometown show at One World Café with Mr. Daniel Ledwell warming the stage and accompanying me as well. This week I’ll be participating in a CBC TV live taping called East Coast Sessions with other wonderful local artists.

On the 23rd of July I’ll be participating in the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest in Toronto at the NOW Lounge along with the other Canadian Regional Finalists. The winner will get the chance to perform at the finals in New York City in September and perhaps make it onto the infamous and actual Mountain Stage in West Virginia.
