July 9, 2005

Sunny, warm and friendly was my trip to Boston last week. I stayed to experience the 4th of July. In fact, where I was in Davis Square, it was calm as many took the chance to get outta dodge – nice. Like here in Halifax, you can walk the streets down the centre at night. I really like that.

Thanks to Rose, Cindy & Austin for keepin me buckled in laughter. Thanks to all of you who came to the shows at Passim and to F & B for hosting a great concert in your abode.

I can hardly believe it’s July. This was one of those months I savoured as a young child when school ended and you knew the summer had started = beach, eating on the picnic table, swimming for hours, campground friends and hotdogs. In my teens it meant summer jobs started and those other things happened when you could make the time. Now it means precious warm days, the scheduling of vacations, weddings, and this year my 10yr high school reunion. During my time in PEI I still wish every moment to slow to half its pace so I can remember it all.

My summer faves are campfire roasted marshmallows, a full un-interrupted sky of stars, quiet cottage morning tea with mum, Cousins’ shore, swimming with dad and my brothers, taking my gramma to the beach, taking pictures of my gramma at the beach, anything cooked on a BBQ, browner skin, corn on the cob, shucking peas, picking & hulling strawberries, mom’s raspberry pie, hosing the sand off my feet, frisbee and every moment the air is warm enough that it allows me to be jacketless.

Let’s clink our camping mugs and have a cheer to making the most of our summer!
