Who the heck knows anything about love? The only book of love I think makes any sense is the one that the Magnetic Fields sing about… “no one can lift the damn thing…”
But this weekend I learned that my brother knows a thing or two about love. He made love look like smiles and engulfing hugs as he exchanged rings with his new bride; my new little sister-in-law. And so, they were married.
My parents know something about love. How it seems like, in the worst moments, nothing but hard work, but, also how when you need someone, you got someone – no questions. My sister knows something about love. Like when you’re away from the one you love, your best friend, that it can be tough but that the strength of that love catches you and you are always ok.
They all taught me that the one you love, you can fall into a million pieces in front of and they will love you just the same. I think to myself that these things are pretty great things about love.
I watched old couples dance. I watched kids buzzing on sugar run in circles. I was surrounded by love. Though I still can’t explain it, I know it was where I was.
Thank you to my brother, his bride, my family, my new family-in-law and to everyone who believes and lives love….
